Subject: Equipment salvaged for USS J.P. KENNEDY JR. DD850

All Hands,

On 9 - 10 April 2007, Ed Zajkowski, Gene Byers, Bobby Young, Brown Beezer,

Danny Issacs, Steve Whynot, Mike Angelini, Rob Angelini, and Rich Angelini

stripped equipment off USS PUGET SOUND AD-38, USS RADFORD DD968, and USS

TROUT SS566 at the old Philly Naval Shipyard as part of the HNSA Open House.

While working with many other museums which included NEW JERSEY, ORLECK,

SLATER, BECUNA, CAVALLA, TORSK, and ALBACORE , we believe we succeeded in

acquiring some rare and valuable items for our destroyer as well as

supporting our berthmate, USS LIONFISH SS298.

The items are the following: (Quantity in parenthesis)

(All) Complete suite of the ECM system AN/WLR-1

-- Note: This was probably the rarest equipment we obtained and

completes a entire system aboard the ship where we had hardly any of it.

Of note, it goes into two rooms aboard 850 that were previously thought

unrestorable, essentially completing one totally.

Besides the slew of maintenaince equipment and tools acquired this trip,

rare artifacts were acquired to complete KENNEDY's WLR-1 passive ECM suite,

AN/SAT-2 infrared beacon system, and support other ongoing or restored

areas.

These strip trips are very long, tedious, and tiring. Yet it feels

extremely good to come back to KENNEDY and put a item that one works so hard

to acquire in a rack or location that was once empty. This trip allowed our

crew to feel this accomplishment several times.

Fair Winds and Following Seas,

Rich Angelini
